Normal-pressure hydrocephalus is characterized by enlargement of the ventricular system without significantly elevated intracranial pressure. The measured intracranial pressure is usually relatively normal.
Symptoms
The Hakim triad is the typical symptom complex in patients with normal-pressure hydrocephalus.
Treatment
One treatment option is implantation of a VP shunts, with gait disturbance responding particularly well to VP shunt implantation. Cognitive deficits and urinary disturbances show a less favorable response to a VP shunt[^1]. A common complication is overdrainage by the shunt system, resulting in the formation of bilateral Hygromas[^1].
