Cerebral panangiography

Synonyms
Panangiography, Panangiographie, PAG

Cerebral panangiography refers to the angiographic visualization of all vessels supplying the brain using digital subtraction angiography. This examination is the gold standard for diagnosing neurovascular diseases, such as aneurysms.

Procedure

This involves puncture of an arterial vessel and direct intra-arterial administration of contrast medium. In the past, contrast medium was administered directly via the ascending aorta[^1]. Nowadays, digital subtraction angiography with selective injection of contrast medium into the Internal carotid artery, the External carotid artery, and the Vertebral artery on both sides is generally performed.

Imaging

Digital subtraction angiography
Digital subtraction angiography via the right internal carotid artery. This represents part of a cerebral panangiogram, as visualization of the external carotid artery and the vertebral artery is also required.
