The cisterna interpeduncularis is a Cerebrospinal fluid-filled Cistern located at the Midbrain in the region of the crura cerebri.
Terminology
The cisterna interpeduncularis and Chiasmatic cistern are collectively referred to as the cisterna basalis.
Anatomy
The cisterna interpeduncularis contains the following anatomical structures[^1]:
The bifurcation of the Basilar artery.
The peduncular segment of the Posterior cerebral artery.
The peduncular segment of the Superior cerebellar artery.
Perforating branches of the posterior cerebral artery and an arterial branch to the Oculomotor nerve.
Interpeduncular vein and posterior communicating vein
The oculomotor nerve, which courses along the margin of the cisterna interpeduncularis between the posterior cerebral artery and superior cerebellar artery.
