Wallenberg syndrome results from ischemia in the territory of the vertebral artery, usually due to occlusion of the posterior inferior cerebellar artery (PICA) and, consequently, its perforating branches. This results in infarction of the dorsolateral medulla oblongata, as well as the caudal portions of the cerebellum1.
