Spinal canal stenosis refers to a narrowing of the spinal canal.

Etiology

The most common cause of spinal canal stenosis in older adults is degeneration of the spine. Spinal canal stenosis can occur throughout the Spine, but it is most commonly found in the lumbar or cervical spine.

Symptoms

Clinically, lumbar spinal canal stenosis predominantly presents with typical symptoms of Spinal claudication.

Classification

On imaging, a distinction can be made between absolute and relative spinal canal stenosis.

Various classification systems exist for lumbar spinal canal stenosis:

Imaging
