Marginal sinus

Synonyms
Marginal sinus, Randsinus

The marginal sinus is an intradural venous sinus of the brain.

Anatomy

The marginal sinus surrounds the Foramen magnum. The marginal sinus communicates with the vertebral venous plexus[^2] and drains venous blood from the basilar plexus, conveying it via the Sinus occipitalisConfluens sinuumCanalis nervi hypoglossiSinus sigmoideus

Anatomical measurements

In a cadaveric study (n=15), the vertical height of the marginal sinus ranged from 7 to 15 mm (mean 10 mm) and was located at the lateral margin or near the region where the Accessory nerve passes to the Jugular foramen[^1]
