Anaplastic astrocytoma is a WHO grade 3 brain tumor from the group of astrocytomas. It is a malignant, diffusely infiltrating, primary intrinsic brain tumor without 1p/19q codeletion1. Anaplastic astrocytomas can develop de novo as a new tumor or arise secondarily from a diffuse astrocytoma (WHO grade 2)2.
IDH Mutation
Anaplastic astrocytomas may harbor an IDH mutation or be IDH-wildtype, with patients harboring an IDH mutation having a better prognosis than patients with an IDH-wildtype variant3.
