Abulia is defined as a pathological lack of will and weakness of volition. In addition, there is an inability to make decisions. Affected patients would like to carry out an action but are unable to make a corresponding decision or are incapable of implementing it. In some cases, speech may be reduced, progressing to mutism.
Etiology
Abulia may occur, for example, following damage to the frontal lobe, caudate nucleus, midbrain, and thalamus1.
