Abulia is defined as a pathological lack of will and diminished volition. It is also characterized by an inability to make decisions. Affected patients would like to perform an action but are unable to make a corresponding decision or lack the ability to carry it out. In some cases, speech may be reduced, progressing to mutism.
Etiology
Abulia may occur, for example, following damage to the frontal lobe, caudate nucleus, midbrain, or thalamus.
