RANO Criteria for Brain Metastases

The RANO Working Group continuously adapts radiological criteria to measure treatment effects in various brain tumors and make them comparable under study conditions1. The following table of RANO criteria applies to brain metastases.

Criterion Complete Response Partial Response Stable Disease Progressive Disease
Target lesion None Reduction of ≥ 30% in the sum of the longest dimensions compared with baseline. Reduction of < 30% relative to baseline but < 20% increase in the sum of the longest dimensions relative to the nadir. Increase of ≥ 20% in the sum of the longest dimensions relative to the nadir
Non-target lesion None Stable or improved stable or improved progressive
Corticosteroids None Stable or ↓ Stable or ↓ N/A
Clinical status Stable or ↑ Stable or ↑ Stable or ↑ Deterioration
Required for response All criteria All criteria All criteria One of the criteria
