The Wada test is used to determine the language-dominant hemisphere before surgical procedures. The Wada test is now performed only very rarely in clinical practice, as the language-dominant hemisphere is now primarily determined using functional MRI imaging[^1].
Procedure
During the Wada test, a barbiturate is injected transfemorally into the Internal carotid artery, thereby causing inactivation of the corresponding hemisphere.
