Supratrochlear artery

Last edit by Alaric Steinmetz on

The supratrochlear artery is a terminal vessel branch of the ophthalmic artery, which in turn is the first intracranial branch of the internal carotid artery.

Anatomy

The supratrochlear artery, alongside the supratrochlear vein, exits the orbit in its upper medial quadrant through the frontal notch. After leaving the orbit, the vessel runs vertically ascending to the forehead, about 2 cm from the midline. The supratrochlear artery forms numerous anastomoses, including with the supraorbital artery, the supratrochlear artery of the opposite side, and the frontal branch of the superficial temporal artery. Supply

The supratrochlear artery supplies the skin of the medial side of the forehead and scalp, as well as the underlying pericranium and the frontalis muscle with blood.
