The sulcus arteriae vertebralis is located on the posterior arch of the Atlas and is a curved groove in which the Vertebral artery lies after leaving the Transverse foramen, before passing intracranially through the Foramen magnum.
Variants
Instead of a sulcus arteriae vertebralis, a Canalis arteriae vertebralis may also be present as a variant[^1].
