Subdural-peritoneal shunt

A subdural-peritoneal shunt is a shunt system between the subdural space and the peritoneal cavity. In terms of its functional principle and insertion, such a shunt system is very similar to a VP shunt, with the difference that the shunt is placed in the subdural space rather than in the ventricular system. Subdural-peritoneal shunts are indicated, for example, in selected cases of pronounced hygromas. Cases involving recurrent chronic subdural hematomas have also been described in the literature1.
