Synonyms: rapid pacing, RVP

Rapid Ventricular Pacing (RVP), also referred to as rapid pacing, is a procedure used to achieve a temporary interruption of blood flow. This procedure is used in vascular neurosurgery to achieve better control during critical moments of surgery, for example during Aneurysm clipping.

Procedure

For Rapid Ventricular Pacing, ventricular overdrive pacing is performed via a catheter, thereby reducing arterial blood flow. The use of intraoperative Rapid Ventricular Pacing requires both an experienced neurovascular surgeon and a specialized anesthesia team for safe performance[^1].

Alternatives

A similar effect can be achieved through the intravenous administration of Adenosine[^2].
