The Musculus abductor digiti minimi (manus) is a short muscle belonging to the hypothenar musculature of the hand and forming the ulnar border of the hand.

Anatomy

Course

The muscle originates from the os pisiforme, the ligamentous structures of the flexor retinaculum, and the tendon of the Musculus flexor carpi ulnaris. The muscle’s short tendon inserts on the ulnar aspect of the proximal phalanx of the little finger (Digitus manus V). Some fibers radiate laterally into the dorsal aponeurosis of the little finger.

Innervation

The Musculus abductor digiti minimi is innervated by the deep branch (Ramus profundus) of the Ulnar nerve from the Brachial plexus from the C8 and Th1 segments.

Function

The Musculus abductor digiti minimi is responsible for abducting the little finger from the palm.
