Medulla oblongata

The medulla oblongata is part of the brainstem, and descending and ascending nerve fiber tracts from the brain and spinal cord run through it.

Anatomy

Numerous important nuclei are also located within it, which are necessary for maintaining homeostasis in the human body. Cranially, the medulla oblongata borders the Pons and caudally continues as the spinal cord, the medulla spinalis.
