The medial rectus muscle is a skeletal muscle and is part of the extraocular musculature.
Anatomy
The medial rectus muscle originates from the Common tendinous ring. The muscle runs straight anteriorly near the nasal wall of the orbit and inserts on the medial surface of the eyeball, ventral to the equator of the eyeball.
Innervation
The medial rectus muscle is innervated by the inferior division of the Oculomotor nerve[^1].
Blood supply
The muscular branches of the Arteria ophthalmica are responsible for the arterial blood supply.
