The frontal lobe is the most anteriorly located cerebral lobe in the brain.

Function

Functionally, the primary motor cortex and the supplementary motor areas are located in the frontal lobe.

Anatomy

Posteriorly, the frontal lobe is separated from the parietal lobe by the central sulcus, and inferiorly it is divided from the temporal lobe by the lateral sulcus. Anteriorly, the frontal lobe extends to the frontal pole.

Gyri

The superior frontal gyrus, middle frontal gyrus, and inferior frontal gyrus are located in the frontal lobe. The inferior frontal gyrus is subdivided into three parts by the ascending ramus and anterior ramus of the lateral sulcus. The most anterior is the pars orbitalis, followed by the pars triangularis and pars opercularis. The precentral gyrus is also located directly anterior to the central sulcus.

Sulci

The superior frontal sulcus and the inferior frontal sulcus are located in the frontal lobe.
