The inferior orbital fissure is a cleft-like space located between the Sphenoid bone and the Maxilla at the level of the orbital floor and lateral orbital wall.
Anatomy
The inferior orbital fissure connects the Pterygopalatine fossa to the Orbit. The inferior orbital fissure can be divided into anterolateral, middle, and posteromedial portions[^1]. On the orbital surface, the inferior orbital fissure is covered by Müller's muscle, which separates the contents of the orbit from those of the pterygopalatine fossa[^1].
The following structures pass through the inferior orbital fissure:
Infraorbital nerve and zygomatic nerve as branches of the Trigeminal nerve
Parasympathetic nerve fibers from the pterygopalatine ganglion
Infraorbital artery
Infraorbital vein
