The trapezoid body is an anatomical structure in the area of the Pons and part of the auditory pathway.

Anatomy

Macroscopically, the trapezoid body can be recognized as a delicate bulge, formed by the fibers of the Lemniscus lateralis crossing to the contralateral side. The Nuclei corporis trapezoidei located inside form their origin. As part of the indirect auditory pathway, the trapezoid body connects the two ventral cochlear nuclei with each other. The fibers of the trapezoid body extend from the ventral cochlear nucleus to the superior olivary complex.
