The central artery, also known as the Rolandic artery, is a terminal branch of the middle cerebral artery.

Anatomy

The central artery runs in the central sulcus and supplies part of the precentral gyrus as well as a part of the postcentral gyrus with arterial blood[^1].

Clinical Relevance

An occlusion of the central artery can lead to a rolandic artery syndrome, which is characterized by contralateral hemiparesis as well as contralateral sensory deficits.
