A butterfly glioma (butterfly glioma) is a glioma that crosses the midline of the brain and infiltrates both cerebral hemispheres. It typically spreads via the corpus callosum, creating the characteristic butterfly-shaped appearance on imaging.
Quality of life with surgical therapy
One study was able to show in butterfly glioblastomas that quality of life, measured by the KPS, does not change significantly with surgical debulking compared with a biopsy, given an overall very limited life expectancy[^1].
Imaging
The gold standard in the imaging of butterfly gliomas is MRI.
