Angiocentric Glioma

Angiocentric glioma is classified as a WHO Grade I brain tumor. It is a slow-growing tumor that primarily occurs in children or young adults and is characterized by an angiocentric growth pattern. The tumor cells are monomorphic bipolar cells that show ependymal differentiation1. Surgical resection offers the possibility of curative treatment when complete resection is achieved2.

Clinical Presentation

Angiocentric gliomas typically present clinically with drug-resistant epilepsy3.

Imaging

On MRI, angiocentric gliomas appear as well-circumscribed lesions that are hyperintense on FLAIR and show no contrast enhancement4. They are usually located very superficially in the cortex, with the frontoparietal cortex most commonly affected, followed by the temporal cortex5.

Histopathology

The tumor cells of an angiocentric glioma show immunoreactivity for EMA, GFAP, S-100, and vimentin, but not for neuronal antigens6.
