The Glasgow Outcome Scale was published in 1975[^1] and serves the clinical classification of patients following an organic brain injury, such as after a traumatic brain injury.
Classification
Grade | Functional Status | Description |
GOS 1 | Death | Death of the patient. |
GOS 2 | Persistent vegetative state | Severe damage with persistent state of unresponsiveness and lack of higher mental functions. |
GOS 3 | Severe disability | Severe damage with permanent need for assistance in activities of daily living. |
GOS 4 | Moderate disability | No dependency on aids in daily life, work possible in special facilities. |
GOS 5 | Low disability | Mild damage with minor neurological and psychological deficits. |
