TWIST Sequence (MRI)

The TWIST sequence (Time-resolved angiography With Interleaved Stochastic Trajectories) is an innovative technique in Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), particularly in the field of MR angiography. This method is characterized by a combination of high temporal and spatial resolution, making it possible to capture dynamic processes in the vascular system in detail. The MRI TRICKS sequence is based on a similar principle to that of the TWIST sequence[^1].

Principle

The TWIST sequence is a time-resolved MR angiography sequence that produces a series of images to depict the passage of a contrast agent[^1]. More than 20 images are acquired at a rate of 1–2 images per second. First, a complete non-contrast image of the region of interest is acquired. The original non-contrast image can be used as a mask for subtraction to improve vascular conspicuity.
