Synonyms: Transverse sinus

The transverse sinus is a paired intradural venous channel of the brain.

Anatomy

The transverse sinus drains the inferior and cerebellar cerebral veins and receives the inferior anastomotic vein (vein of Labbé). It also drains the Confluens sinuum. It drains venous blood via the sigmoid sinus into the internal jugular vein.

Imaging

The transverse sinus can be visualized using various imaging modalities, such as CT-, MRI-, and angiography examinations.
