The internal jugular vein is a paired vein of the neck and is responsible for venous outflow from the brain.

Anatomy

The internal jugular vein runs posterior to the sternocleidomastoid muscle, parallel to the Arteria carotis communisSinus sigmoideusForamen jugulareSkull base and then runs deep in the neck together with the carotid artery within the carotid sheath.
