The TERT promoter regulates the expression of telomerase reverse transcriptase (TERT). Mutations in the TERT promoter occur significantly more frequently in primary (often IDH1 wild-type) glioblastomas than in secondary (often IDH1-mutant) glioblastomas.
Clinical Relevance
TERT promoter mutations show an inverse correlation with IDH1 mutations[^1] and are associated with poorer survival in Glioblastomas.
