Synonyms: superior petrosal sinus
The superior petrosal sinus is a venous sinus of the brain.
The superior petrosal sinus runs along the superior border of the petrous part of the temporal bone, parallel to the inferior petrosal sinus. The superior petrosal sinus communicates with the cavernous sinus and drains venous blood from the middle cranial fossa to the sigmoid sinus. At the skull base, it forms the Sulcus sinus petrosi superioris.
