The superior hypophyseal artery is a branch of the cerebral segment of the internal carotid artery and, together with the inferior hypophyseal artery, supplies the pituitary gland with arterial blood.

Anatomy

The superior hypophyseal artery runs medially below the floor of the third ventricle to the tuber cinereum and connects with the contralateral artery, forming a ring around the infundibulum[^1].

Supply

The superior hypophyseal artery supplies the pituitary gland.

Variants

The superior hypophyseal artery can also arise from the posterior communicating artery.
