The Sternberg canal is a bony opening that may result from incomplete fusion of the greater wing of the sphenoid with the body of the sphenoid bone and represents a weak point in the Skull base[^1].
Epidemiology
The presence of a Sternberg canal is rare and was observed in one out of 1000 patients in a study involving CT imaging[^2].
Imaging
Clinical relevance
The Sternberg canal may lead to the development of a spontaneous Cerebrospinal fluid fistula or an encephalocele of the Temporal lobe that protrudes into the lateral recess of the Sphenoid sinus[^1].
