Stalk effect

The stalk effect results in a slight elevation of prolactin levels.

Pathophysiology

Damage to or compression of the Hypothalamus or Pituitary stalk interrupts the feedback loop regulating prolactin production, resulting in a laboratory-detected elevation of prolactin levels[^1].
