Remote cerebellar hemorrhage

Remote cerebellar hemorrhage refers to an intracerebral hemorrhage in the cerebellum as a postoperative complication, where the surgery was performed in another region, such as supratentorial[^2] or spinal.

Cause

The cause of a remote cerebellar hemorrhage may, for example, be the rapid and/or substantial loss of Cerebrospinal fluid[^1]. For example, after spinal surgery with a Cerebrospinal fluid leak, a wound drain placed with suction may lead to rapid CSF loss and consequent remote cerebellar hemorrhage.

Prognosis

The prognosis is favorable in more than 50 % of cases, with only mild or no residual neurological deficits. In ~ 10-15 % of cases, a remote cerebellar hemorrhage may be fatal[^1].
