Radiculopathy refers to a condition resulting from irritation or damage to a Nerve root.
Symptoms
Damage to these roots can cause a range of symptoms, which vary depending on the affected nerve root.
Pain: This is the most common symptom. The pain typically radiates along the affected Dermatomes
Tingling and numbness: These symptoms also result from damage to the nerve root and typically occur along the affected dermatome.
Motor impairment: In severe cases, weakness may develop in the muscles innervated by the affected nerve root.
Impairment of autonomic functions: In rare cases, autonomic functions such as bladder and bowel emptying may also be affected, particularly when radiculopathy occurs in the lumbosacral Spine.
Diagnostic evaluation
The diagnosis of radiculopathy is generally based on the medical history, a physical examination, and imaging studies such as MRI- or CT imaging. Electrodiagnostic tests such as electroneurography (ENG) and Electromyography (EMG) may also be used to confirm the diagnosis[^1].
