Premedullary cistern

The premedullary cistern is a cistern filled with cerebrospinal fluid and is located on the anterior surface of the medulla oblongata.

Anatomy

Cranially, the premedullary cistern communicates with the pontine cistern. Caudally, it communicates with the anterior spinal cistern and laterally with the cerebellomedullary cistern. The premedullary cistern contains the anterior spinal artery and venous vessels[^1].
