Oligoastrocytoma was classified as a WHO Grade 2 tumor and is a mixed tumor consisting of two different cell types. Oligodendroglioma cells as well as cells of a diffuse astrocytoma are present. Some of the cells exhibit combined characteristics of both cell types1.
WHO Classification
In the 2021 WHO Classification of CNS Tumors, oligoastrocytomas were removed as a distinct entity from the WHO classification because no definitive genetic profile can be assigned to oligoastrocytomas 2.
