Synonyms: Oligodendrocyte transcription factor 2

The oligodendrocyte transcription factor (OLIG2) is expressed almost exclusively in the central nervous system. Immunohistochemical staining for Olig2 is positive in glial brain tumors and can aid in differentiating between metastases and glial tumors. Oligodendrogliomas also show positive staining for Olig2, whereas extraventricular neurocytomas show negative immunohistochemical staining1.
