Occipital condyle

The bilateral occipital condyles, located lateral and rostral to the foramen magnum, form the surface on which the caput of the first cervical vertebra can flex and extend forward and backward. The ventromedial border of the occipital condyles provides the attachment for the ligamenta alaria.

Clinical relevance

Strong traumatic force can result in occipital condyle fractures.
