Lumbar lordosis (LL)

Lumbar lordosis is the natural, physiological forward curvature of the Spine in the lumbar region.

Definition

Lumbar lordosis is the angle between the superior endplate of SWK1 and the superior endplate of LWK1[^1].

Sagittal balance

For balanced sagittal alignment, lumbar lordosis should correspond to the Pelvic incidence ± 9 °.

Normal value

In a healthy adult, lumbar lordosis measures approximately 20-40 ° [^2]. The majority of lumbar lordosis is provided by LWK5\/SWK1 and LWK4\/LWK5.

Figure

Lumbar lordosis is optimally measured on a standing sagittal radiograph of the LWS.
