Infusion test

During an infusion test, a cerebrospinal fluid substitute is administered intrathecally by infusion through a lumbar puncture under slight pressure intrathecally. Extensive measurements are performed, and pressure values are recorded continuously and subsequently analyzed.

CSF Outflow Resistance (rCSF, Rout)

One of the parameters obtained in this way is the CSF outflow resistance. It is calculated as follows1:
Rout = ( ICPend - ICPbas ) / Vinf

ICPend is defined as the highest ICP level during the infusion test. ICPbas is defined as the baseline ICP value before the start of the infusion, and Vinf is the infusion rate.
