Imaging artifact

Imaging artifacts are artifacts that occur in imaging modalities such as MRI, CT, ultrasonography, or angiography. They usually result from superimpositions in the images caused by marked differences in tissue density, for example due to foreign-body material, so that image assessment is often possible only to a limited extent. Specialized software can achieve artifact suppression through calculations, reducing the interfering artifacts to a minimum.
