The term hypoesthesia refers to reduced superficial sensation. In hypoesthesia, some residual sensation is still present, and there is no complete numbness.

Etiology

Hypoesthesia can be caused by various factors. These causes include neurological diseases, such as diabetes mellitus, multiple sclerosis, or peripheral neuropathies, as well as lesions of the central or peripheral nervous system or circulatory disorders.

Diagnostic Evaluation

Hypoesthesia can be diagnosed through a thorough clinical examination.
