Clinical relevance
Intracranial tumors that grow into the Meatus acusticus internus, such as the typical Vestibular schwannoma, can cause progressive unilateral hypacusis. Hypacusis may also occur as a surgical complication, particularly in procedures involving the cerebellopontine angle.
