Synonyms: Colliers sign

Collier sign refers to unilateral or bilateral pathological eyelid retraction, which can result from damage to the mesencephalon. Collier sign is usually caused by ischemia, brain tumors, multiple sclerosis, neurodegenerative diseases, or encephalitis involving the mesencephalon1. A combination of vertical upward gaze palsy, as occurs in Parinaud syndrome, with Collier sign results in the appearance of the setting-sun phenomenon2.
