Brainstem auditory evoked responses are used to assess objective hearing ability. BAER makes it possible to measure acoustically evoked brainstem potentials.
Procedure
To generate brainstem auditory evoked responses, clicking sounds are delivered to the patient's ear via headphones. These potentials were formerly used as an aid in the diagnosis of Vestibular schwannomas. Their use in intraoperative neuromonitoring is limited and has largely been replaced by direct stimulation of the Vestibulocochlear nerve[^1].
