White matter (Substantia alba)

The Brain and Spinal cord are divided into gray matter (Substantia grisea) and white matter (Substantia alba). White matter is composed of nerve fiber bundles. The white color responsible for the naming of white matter is due to the lipid-containing myelin sheaths of the axons.
