Vernet syndrome describes a symptom complex resulting from a lesion of the structures passing through the Foramen jugulare. Vernet syndrome is therefore characterized by unilateral paralysis of the Nervus glossopharyngeus, Nervus vagus, and Nervus accessorius.
Symptoms
The following symptoms may occur in Vernet syndrome[^1]:
Unilateral paralysis of the palatal muscles, vocal cords, sternocleidomastoid muscle, and trapezius muscle
Loss of taste in the posterior third of the tongue
Anesthesia in the region of the soft palate, larynx, and pharynx
