Tumor-treating fields (TTFields) are an additional treatment option for brain tumors, such as in patients with glioblastoma. This is a noninvasive therapy in which alternating electric fields with specific frequencies and intensities are applied with the aim of preventing tumor cell division. Tumor-treating fields are intended to deactivate proteins that are critical for the cell cycle, leading to mitotic arrest followed by cellular apoptosis. Tumor-treating fields are applied continuously via transducer arrays, which are attached to the patient's shaved scalp.
