Tranexamic acid (Cyklokapron)

Last edit by Alaric Steinmetz on

Tranexamic acid (trade name: Cyklokapron) prevents the breakdown of fibrin that has already formed and is administered as an adjunct to other measures in cases of acute bleeding and unexplained coagulation disorders. A large randomized study (CRASH-2)1 showed that administration of tranexamic acid reduces mortality in actively bleeding trauma patients. The administration of tranexamic acid remains controversial.
