Temporalis muscle

The temporalis muscle is one of the muscles of mastication and derives embryologically from the first pharyngeal arch.

Anatomy

The temporalis muscle originates from the Temporal fossa up to the Inferior temporal line and from the temporal fascia. Via a strong tendon, it reaches and inserts on the coronoid process of the mandible. Its insertion extends downward along the medial and anterior surfaces of the ramus of the mandible[^1].

Innervation

The temporalis muscle is innervated by the deep temporal nerves, which arise from the mandibular nerve, the third branch of the Nervus trigeminus
